Resume

What this agent does

The KYC / CIP Verification Agent AI performs the automated checks that underpin every customer's identity verification at LendingIQ — SSN / government ID verification via SSA/eCBSV and trusted identity services, government ID document authentication, prior CIP record matching, and cross-field consistency verification across all identity documents. It produces a structured KYC / CIP verification report that tells the onboarding team exactly what was checked, what was found, and whether the KYC / CIP file is complete, needs additional information, or cannot proceed. It does not accept a customer's KYC / CIP — that is a human-authorized act recorded in the institutional CIP system.

Primary functions

SSN / Government ID Verification

Every individual applicant — synchronous

Invoked when: applicant submits SSN / government ID and consent for identity verification during onboarding

  • Verifies the SSN via SSA Consent-Based Verification (eCBSV) or equivalent trusted identity services — confirming the SSN is valid and matches applicant name and date of birth where available. Document-based verification (driver's license, passport, state ID) supplements electronic checks. Liveness detection in the Fraud Detection Agent AI confirms the applicant is physically present.
  • Validates government-issued photo ID against document authentication services and bureau records — confirming document integrity, issuer-validated name and date of birth, and consistency with the SSN verification outcome.
  • Cross-checks name and date of birth across SSN verification, photo ID, pay stubs, bank statements, and employer records. Minor variations (initials, suffixes, maiden names) are minor discrepancies requiring review; material mismatches are verification failures.
  • Does not store full SSN or unnecessary biometric data beyond what GLBA and applicable state privacy laws permit. Only verification outcomes and minimal corroborating fields are retained in the CIP record.
Output: SSN / government ID verification result — SSN validation status (pass/fail), document authentication status, name cross-check across sources, discrepancy classification (minor/material), and verification confidence based on checks passed.

CIP Prior Record Match

Every applicant — existing KYC / CIP check before fresh collection

Invoked when: SSN or customer identifier is available — prior CIP record check runs before requesting fresh KYC / CIP documents

  • Queries prior CIP and bureau records using the applicant's SSN and identifiers to check whether a prior CIP record already exists from a prior interaction with another financial institution. If a prior record exists, it retrieves verification status, date, and originating institution — reducing duplicate document collection.
  • Compares demographic fields in the prior CIP record against the current submission — flagging address, name, or date-of-birth changes. Minor discrepancies go to the CIP officer; material mismatches require fresh verification.
  • Determines whether the existing prior CIP record satisfies LendingIQ's requirements for the product tier (simplified / normal / enhanced CIP).
  • If no prior record exists, the agent triggers fresh document collection. On successful CIP completion, it produces the CIP update payload for human submission — a human-authorized act.
Output: Prior CIP match result — record found/not found, KYC / CIP status and date if found, demographic discrepancy assessment, sufficiency determination for LendingIQ's product requirement, and if fresh KYC / CIP is required, the CIP record update payload for human submission on KYC / CIP completion.

Video KYC / CIP Outcome Integration

For applicants completing V-CIP pathway

Invoked when: Video KYC / CIP Moderator AI has completed a V-CIP session and the outcome needs to be integrated into the overall KYC / CIP verification report

  • Reads the structured output from the Video KYC / CIP Moderator AI — session pass/refer verdict, compliance checklist outcome, face match result, liveness check outcome, and any moderator notes — and integrates it with the SSN / government ID verification results and Prior CIP match results to produce a complete KYC / CIP file status.
  • Checks that the V-CIP session outcome satisfies the Fed / OCC V-CIP (Video based Customer Identification Process) requirements for the applicable customer category: that the OVD presented during the session matches the OVD on file, that the customer's face was visible throughout, that the session was conducted in a single sitting without interruption, and that the date and time watermark from the V-CIP system confirms the session was live.
  • Identifies any remaining KYC / CIP gaps that the V-CIP session did not address — for example, a V-CIP session that verified identity but did not collect the address proof separately required for the applicable KYC / CIP category. Flags these as open items before the KYC / CIP file can be considered complete.
Output: Integrated KYC / CIP verification report — SSN / government ID verification, prior CIP match, V-CIP outcome, V-CIP compliance checklist, any remaining open KYC / CIP items, overall KYC / CIP file status (Complete / Incomplete — items listed / Refer — discrepancies listed), and a compliance note for the human KYC / CIP officer's record.

Knowledge base

Fed / OCC KYC / CIP SR letter (RAG)

Full KYC / CIP SR letter with all amendments — OVD categories, simplified/normal/enhanced KYC / CIP tiers, CIP obligations, SSN / government ID verification provisions, V-CIP requirements. Always retrieved live, never cached.

SSA / Document Authentication Responses

Real-time SSN verification (eCBSV) and government ID document authentication results. Pulled at invocation per applicant — not stored beyond the CIP file record.

CIP Prior Verification Records

Prior CIP and bureau identity data per applicant. Checking existing verification before fresh document collection reduces friction.

Applicant Document Set

OVDs submitted by the applicant — SSN / government ID card image, EIN / SSN image, address proof, photograph. Provided at invocation; not stored beyond the KYC / CIP record retention period.

Video KYC / CIP Moderator AI Output

Structured V-CIP session outcome — pass/refer, compliance checklist, face match result — for integration into the complete KYC / CIP verification report.

KYC / CIP Verification Knowledge

Pre-training knowledge of US KYC / CIP framework, US CIP framework, prior verification record practices, V-CIP compliance requirements, and digital onboarding KYC / CIP practice up to knowledge cutoff.

Hard guardrails

Will notAccept a customer's KYC / CIP or record a KYC / CIP acceptance in the institutional CIP system. KYC / CIP acceptance is a human-authorized act. The agent produces the verification report; the authorized KYC / CIP officer confirms acceptance and submits the CIP record update.
Will notStore SSN / government ID biometric data or full SSN / government ID demographic data beyond what GLBA and applicable state privacy laws permit for the authentication transaction. Only the verification outcome is retained in the KYC / CIP record.
Will notAuthenticate without explicit customer OTP consent. SSN / government ID authentication requires the customer to enter the OTP received on their registered mobile — the agent cannot initiate or bypass the OTP consent step.
Will notApprove a KYC / CIP file with a mandatory OVD absent. Missing mandatory documents produce an "Incomplete" verdict with the specific missing items listed — the agent does not waive document requirements or approve a workaround without human KYC / CIP officer authorisation.

Known limitations

SSN / government ID OTP authentication confirms the mobile number is registered to the SSN / government ID number — it does not confirm the person holding the device is the SSN / government ID holder. A motivated fraudster with access to another person's SSN / government ID number and their mobile phone can pass OTP authentication. Liveness detection in the Fraud Detection Agent AI and V-CIP face matching provide the additional layer that confirms the person is physically present. The KYC / CIP Verification Agent AI and Fraud Detection Agent AI must always run in sequence — SSN / government ID verification first, then liveness and face match. Neither agent alone provides adequate identity assurance; the combination does.
Prior CIP record quality varies across financial institutions. A prior CIP record created by a cooperative bank or older bank may not meet the documentation standards of a current Fed / OCC KYC / CIP cycle. The agent checks the prior CIP record's date and originating institution type and applies a recency and source quality assessment — a prior CIP record more than 2 years old from an institution with a lower KYC / CIP standard may not satisfy LendingIQ's requirements even though the registry shows it as KYC / CIP-compliant.Define a prior CIP record acceptance policy that specifies minimum record age, originating institution type acceptance, and the circumstances under which fresh verification is required despite an existing prior CIP record. The agent applies the policy; the policy must be maintained.
SSN verification may show a processing lag when SSA or bureau records have not yet updated after a recent name or address change. Applicants may show "pending corroboration" until records refresh.Build a 48-hour re-check workflow for "linkage pending" cases — where the customer has submitted proof of having completed the linking, pause the application and recheck the linkage status within 48 hours before routing to manual review. This avoids rejecting genuine applicants who are caught in a system processing lag.
